Replacement Skylight Diffusers

A faded or broken skylight diffuser not only looks bad but also reduces the amount of light distribution from your skylight. Fixing this is as simple as ordering a new skylight diffuser, removing the old one and installing the new one. This is something you can do yourself in most cases and only takes a few minutes to do.

Pre-cut Skylight Diffusers

Most skylight diffusers are made for a standard set of sizes. These vary from 300 mm to 500 mm in round skylights and from 400 mm to 800 mm in square and rectangular skylights. Make your skylight look like new again by purchasing a replacement skylight diffuser online and installing it yourself.

How to measure your skylight diffuser

To get an accurate measurement of your existing skylight diffuser, you'll need to remove it from the ceiling surround (the frame that holds it in place). This can be done by gently lifting the diffuser sheet upwards, carefully grasping it in hand and guiding it through the ceiling surround.

For square diffusers, measure the length and the width. For round diffusers, measure the diameter. Write these down and then double check them.

There's a good chance that the measurement will match a pre-cut diffuser size but if it doesn't, you can order a custom size skylight diffuser.

How To Replace A Skylight Diffuser

Replacing a skylight diffuser is a quick, easy job. You may require a ladder for high ceilings and a pair of gloves to protect your hands.

  1. Remove the existing skylight diffuser by carefully pushing the sheet upwards so you can grasp it. Then rotate it by 45 degrees and gently guide it through on a diagonal (opposite corners).

NOTE: For round skylight diffusers, you may need to bend the sheet slightly so it will fit through the ceiling surround.

TIP: We recommend you take care when handling the diffuser sheet as they can have sharp edges - use gloves if you have them.
  2. Wipe the new skylight diffuser with a damp cloth to ensure its free of dust and fingerprints.
  3. Install the new skylight diffuser by guiding it through the ceiling surround on a diagonal (opposite corners), rotating it 45 degrees and lowering it into place.

TIP: using gloves will also stop you getting fingerprints on the diffuser.
