The History of Supreme Skylights
Supreme Skylights was founded by Robert Howell in 1984 as Wangaratta Skylights. Rob learnt to build dependable and durable skylights from his brother, Mick Howell, and upon moving to the rural town of Wangaratta, built a small factory and began manufacturing skylights commercially.
With a watertight flashing design, Rob's skylights were further improved by identifying the product's weak points and improving the design. Having refined the manufacturing process over the past few decades to improve durability while at the same time minimising manufacturing time and material costs, we’ve been able to produce high-quality skylights at an affordable price.
In the late 1990's Rob began moulding his own skylight domes due to frequently receiving domes damaged during transport. Aside from the raw materials, this means our skylights are 100% Australia made and manufactured by local people to support the local community.
Rebranded as Supreme Skylights in 2020, the company has been growing rapidly due to high demand. The group of regional brands (Albury / Wodonga Skylights, Ballarat Skylights, Bendigo Skylights, Melbourne Skylights, Riverina Skylights, Shepparton Skylights, and Wangaratta Skylights) are currently being consolidated to ensure a more consistent customer experience.
Skylight installations far and wide
Supreme Skylights services regional Victoria from Ballarat all the way through to the Victorian / New South Wales border, up as far as Wagga Wagga. In Bendigo, Shepparton, Albury / Wodonga and everywhere in between, you’ll find our qualified installers installing skylights in Australian roofs. With all the large commercial and industrial jobs as well as the residential homes, Supreme Skylights has installed over 1,000 skylights across Victoria and southern NSW. Increased Flexibility
In the early days, our skylight shafts were usually made from solid sheets of white Colorbond. These were somewhat difficult to install and a nuisance if the measurements were out. With the release of flexible shafts (“flexishafts” as we refer to them) in the 1990’s, skylight installers rejoiced, gaining access to a material that was lighter, easier to work with and allowed for minor obstructions in the path of the shaft. These are still the preferred shaft material for our standard skylights but open plaster shafts (also known as light wells) are back in fashion, especially since the boom in VELUX skylights and their ongoing exposure on Channel 7’s ‘The Block'.

In 2012, due to increasing demand, Rob started installing VELUX skylights and roof windows. Having had decades of experience installing skylights, he was quickly able to learn the installation process and find ways to improve (one of our company values). Supreme Skylights is an authorised VELUX distributor and installer, offering the full range of VELUX products to both retail and trade.
With the popularity of TV renovation shows like The Block, skylights and roof windows have never been so well known and in demand.
