Made from acrylic sheet (AKA: Plexiglass, Perspex, Lucite), a new skylight dome will last a minimum of 10 years in the harsh Australian sun, with 20 and 30 years life spans not uncommon. Smaller domes are moulded from 3 mm acrylic while larger domes use 4.5 mm acrylic for improved strength. Due to it being lightweight, durable and low cost, acrylic is the standard material for skylight domes.
Skylight Dome Sizes
The actual size of a replacement skylight dome is larger than the width of the skylight shaft. This additional width provides a flange for the dome to be fastened to the skylight flashing.
- 400 x 400 mm (520 x 520 mm flange to flange)
- 400 x 600 mm (520 x 720 mm flange to flange)
- 400 x 800 mm (520 x 920 mm flange to flange)
- 500 x 500 mm (620 x 620 mm flange to flange)
- 500 x 800 mm (620 x 920 mm flange to flange)
- 600 x 600 mm (720 x 720 mm flange to flange)
- 600 x 800 mm (720 x 920 mm flange to flange)
- 700 x 700 mm (820 x 820 mm flange to flange)
- 800 x 800 mm (920 x 920 mm flange to flange)
Supreme Skylight domes come with a 20mm flange width but may vary by +5mm or -5mm.
If your existing skylight dome has a flange width less than 20mm OR greater than 30mm, please contact us to order a custom sized skylight dome.
Measuring a Replacement Skylight Dome
Please ensure that you measure your skylight dome before ordering. You will need both the ‘flange to flange’ size as well as the ‘flange width’. The flange to flange size is the total width of the dome material from edge to edge. The flange width is the distance from the edge of the dome material to point where the material begins to rise. You may need to temporarily remove any trims that are securing the skylight dome to the flashing, in order to get an accurate measurement.
Please note: we will not accept returns if you order the wrong sized skylight dome.
Shipping & Delivery
All skylight dome replacements are shipped with the Pack & Send Freight plus Warranty. This means that if the skylight dome is lost or damaged during transport, a replacement dome will be provided after successful completion of a warranty claim. Please note: it is the purchaser’s responsibility to check the skylight dome for damage or faults and notify Supreme Skylights within 7 days of delivery. As part of the warranty, you (the purchaser) will need to sign for the delivery as evidence of having received the goods. We recommend inspecting your delivery BEFORE signing. See full terms & conditions.
We use Pack & Send for transport, fragile tape and labelling of the package e.g.: ‘top load only’. The skylight dome is flat packed using thick cardboard to protect it during transport. Larger domes are transported in crates.
Delivery times are variable depending on location, usually 2 to 14 days. Tracking from the freight company will be issued.
Installing a Skylight Dome
To install a replacement skylight dome you will need to ensure you have the required tools and safety equipment. This may include ladders, safety harnesses or scaffolding depending on your states requirements and specific situation, cordless drill, screwdriver, Stanley knife, pop-rivet gun, rivets, roofing silicone and silicone gun.
The first step is to remove the existing skylight dome and clean the skylight flashing.
Please note: Supreme Skylights recommends that skylight domes are replaced by experienced tradespeople only, due to the safety issues around working at heights and the potential to cause damage to dwellings if the skylight leaks due to incorrect fitting.
